UPDATED 8/17/2023
Inspired by the Tiny Leaders/Tiny Leaders Reborn format, every card in this cube is CMC3 or less and each player has the option to select a commander as they draft. If one is chosen, the deck has to be within the color identity of that card. Cards are intended to be versatile enough to allow drafters to pivot based on what commanders are available in each pod.
Unlike TL, players will only need a 40 card deck and have 20 life. To make sure that all players have adequate exposure to cards in their chosen colors, each pack should have 20 cards when drafting.
There are infinite combos, midrange goodness, stupid win conditions, and a bunch of synergies that I haven't even tested yet. I'm excited for you to play it.
There are a hundred possible commanders in this cube, and include:
-one commander from each wedge and shard
-three legendary creatures from each guild
-nine legendary creatures from each color
-one planeswalker from each color and guild*, can be used as a commander.
Archetypes are intentionally blurry and can be found across various color combinations. Some of them include:
- Stax
- Mill
- Treasure
- Turbo
- Auras
- Tokens
- Spellslinger
- Graveyard
- Equipment
- Ramp
To learn more about TL/TLR, check the official blog and this really neat Moxfield guide to what leaders are legal right now. I didn't make either of those resources, but I did use them as guiding docs for this project.
Enjoy!
*There is no Boros CMC3 Planeswalker yet.
After a two year hiatus to address life, many of the issues this cube had previously have worked themselves out through WOTC cranking out 17 sets since the last update (though I might have miscounted and the number could be higher). Upcoming changes include:
Swapping Elsha, Threefold Master in for Shu Yun, The Silent Tempest
Swapping Raffine, Scheming Seer in for Dakkon, Shadow Slayer
Swapping Gyrus, Waker of Corpses in for Slimefoot and Squee
Swapping Riku of Many Paths in for Animar, Soul of Elements
Including more modal cards to support Riku
Less focus on planeswalkers in general. They're good, but they probably shouldn't be an entire theme.
A few "strictly better" changes to other cards as well. I've also got to fix Gruul and Sylesnya's previous issues, with special focus on token production not being kind of "meh" in this cube.
I'm aiming to keep as many UB cards out of the cube as possible. It isn't that they aren't good, it is that most of them are somewhat insular for the sets they come from.
