Introduction

Up to 8 players draft a more powerful and condensed version of Kaldheim limited. Pack design imitates draft boosters but increases the number of rares and adds a timeshifted “snow/slot”.

A Classic Set, Remade (Design Goals)

• 💎 Embellish a piece of magic's booster history.
--> keep as much of the original format intact while creating a more modern, deep and varied limited environment

• ⚖️ Balance trumps pure nostalgia.
--> rebalance card distribution, rarity and, in some cases, oracle text
--> nerf overpowered bombs and cut unplayable draft-chaff
--> balance the mana curve of each color and further support archetype synergies to make any color-combination fun and playable.

• 🃏 Make flavorful additions from other releases that fit the set's themes, art and mechanics.
--> Timeshifted or Bonus-Sheet type of inserts that create extra variance and surprise veteran drafters.

• 💪🏼 Gameplay feels more like block constructed decks rather than the original booster-draft format as decks are generally more powerful.
--> Commons are still valuable, decks are just more synergistic and reliable (fixing, mana curve)

• 🤝🏼 Drastic reworks are optional to also include players looking for a more traditional set-cube experience.

Each player opens 3 packs of 15 cards containing:

The last booster has one dedicated 'mythic' slot featuring one of 8 powerful mythics. This way it's less likely for one players to have multiples of these in their deck.

Card Rebalancing

Nerfs: (highly recommended)
Koma, Cosmos Serpent: can be countered, first ability triggers only on YOUR upkeep, phases out instead gaining indestructible.
Kaya, the Inexorable: has 4 starting loyalty
Immersturm Predator: has to sacrifice a creature with greater power to activate ability
Giants Amulet: gives ward 2 instead of hexproof
Valki, God of Lies: Tibalt's 2nd ability costs -4 loyalty
Burning Rune Demon: 5/4 body
Doomskar: costs 4ww to cast or 3ww foretell
Goldspan Dragon: doesn't have haste
Esika's Chariot: costs 3gg to cast
Firja's Retribution: chapter 3 gives first strike to your team instead of double strike

How to prepare the custom boosters

  1. When you have all the required cards, sort them by rarity and shuffle each rarity pile (timeshifted and dual snow lands are their own rarity).
  2. Start with the timeshifted cards by laying them out into 24 separate piles, like pile shuffling.
  3. Put a snow Dual-land over each pile. You should have 24 two-card piles.
  4. Put rares and mythics on each pile until all are gone and you have 24 five-card piles.
  5. Put uncommons the same way.
  6. Put commons the same way until all cards are gone and you have 24 fifteen-card boosters.

Draft with 4-8 players or play sealed with up to 4 players.
