My goal is to create a 4-player, draftable, standard legal, budget, singleton Brawl cube. The cube is aimed to consist of 320 cards
plus 40 Commanders plus 40 non-basic lands (=400 cards).
I would sort my priorities in designing the cube as follow:

  1. Draft: The Draft experience should be fun, exciting, with some variance. That is why the Commander is drafted with the packs.
Playtesting showed that the Commander is often not drafted until pack three. Nevertheless, the decks are balanced. Five packs with
10 cards each in a four-player draft fulfils two things: Each players sees a minimum of five Commanders, and each players sees the
    same pack only three times.
  2. Multiplayer: Social interaction is really important to our playgroup.
  3. Commander/Brawl: If we are not drafting this Cube, we play Commander anyway. But to be honest, the Commander restricts the
player's color, but rarely all the synergies of the Commander comes together. It is often a x-color good stuff with a cool card
you can cast multiple times. Restrictions bread creativity!
  4. Budget: Commander should not cost more than 3 bugs, and the rest not more than 1 bug. But this is flexible...
Draft rules: Create 40 packs with 8 random cards + one seeded non-basic land + one seeded Commander (=10 cards per pack). For a
4-player draft, each player gets five packs to create a 40 card deck, including Commander. Normal draft rules. 20 life allows for
quick games. We usually sideboard after round one and play a second round. Perfect for a causal Monday after-work evening to start
    the week!
Restrictions:A) Only legendary creatures and planeswalkers can be Commanders, but they cannot be part of the "regular cards".B)
Only cards from Guilds of Ravnica (GRN) going forward are legal. That means come rotation, this cube will stop being Standard.C)
Commander colour restrictions apply with the following exception for hybrid cards:i. Hybrid Commanders have all coloursii. Hybrid
cards as part of the deck have either colour, or bothD) No "mutate", no "companion".
Current ToDos:I) Flesh out Commander identity / mechanics / archetypesII) Balance power level.

I started with just cards from pre-releases and the Brawl decks. "Recycling" those cards (including promos, fouls, alternate art)
was really important to me. However, I recently spent 15 bucks to buy five three-color commanders.

How did the cube created?- I started with the Brawl precons and removed all the duplicates.- Then I added all the remaining
Standard legandary creatures and planeswalkers I had.- I used Sunyveil's "The Ultimate Compilation of Almost 90 Brawl Deck Lists"
article on Channel fireball to give each Commander supporting cards, if I had them in my collection- For the remaining Commanders,
I used MTG Goldfish to find Brawl decks and do the same thing

  • After that I went through each color and checked if they would support the mono-color commanders. Then I did the same for
multi-color.- I tried to include hybrid commanders as well as hybrid cards to facilitate mono-colored decks. This did not work at
all. These cards ended up as "regular" cards in any deck.
