Welcome to the Micro-Cube, my iteration of the design philosophy represented by the Degenerate Micro-Cube! There are a number of subtle differences in the cube's design and play pattern from Andy Mangold's build, but it represents the same spirit: the feel, power, and speed of constructed Vintage and Legacy magic in a cube format with lots of depth and replayability.

This cube is drafted and played quite differently from a normal cube:

  • This cube is drafted in 3 packs of 11 cards
  • The final minimum deck size is 20 cards. This results in the same consistency of playing three of a card in a constructed format in a singleton format.
  • Instead of losing immediately when attempting to draw from an empty library, you lose life equal to the amount of times you've attempted to do so. That is, the first draw from empty loses you 1 life, the second loses you 2, etc.
This format results in incredibly fraught, tight games, which can either end as early as the first turn or grind slow value engines against each other until one or the other player runs out of cards.

Right now, the following archetypes are directly supported:

These are not the only archetypes you can play in the cube - multi-color control is fairly good, lots of one-card archetypes like Sneak Attack and Oath of Druids are well-supported, and most archetypes splash colors fairly well.
